High Performance Green Automobiles – Geneva et al.

March 4th, 2010

It’s getting hot.  Or green, if you will.  Many high performance EV or hybrids are making appearances at car shows now.

Audi have shown 2 e-tron electric vehicles (an expensive one and a less expensive one), and each of them seem close to manufacture:

The Porsche 918 hybrid concept seems pretty green (as in not ready, not as in energy efficient):

but this GT3 hybrid seems ready to roll:

Fisker have shown their body (adds credibility):

Lotus have shown an Evora hybrid:

Ferrari have shown a hybrid 599:

Quick – how long did it take you to figure out why that Ferrari is painted green?  I’ve never seen a Ferrari debut in any other color than rosso corsa.  It took me about 30 seconds, I’m embarrassed to admit.

There are others too, but these are ones that have caught my eye.  I’ll follow up with a post about a patent that seems to relate to the technology in the Porsche GT3 hybrid.

Green Technologies May Move To The Head Of The Line

December 11th, 2009

The United States Patent and Trademark Office has announced a pilot program for green technologies, including greenhouse gas reduction, environmental quality, energy conservation, development of renewable energy resources, or greenhouse gas emission reduction.

The requirements for this program can be found on page 2 of the attached PDF.

This program will allow an applicant with an application pertaining to green technologies to petition to advance the application out of turn for examination. This program began on December 8, 2009 and will run for 12 months so petitions must be filed before December 9, 2010.

Korean Property Office Offers "Superspeed Examination" for Greentech Applications

November 2nd, 2009

http://www.kipo.go.kr/

The KIPO is using some kind of URL randomizer for its pressers, so I’ve attached a PDF that includes, in part:

To support the patent acquirement of green technologies researched & developed under the national strategy of low-carbon green growth, the Korean Intellectual Property Office (Commissioner: Jung-sik Koh) is planning to apply a superspeed examination system starting October 1.

More surprisingly, the presser recites:

Currently, the period from application to acquire a patent is an average of 18 months for ordinary examinations, and roughly three months for preferential examinations. Using the superspeed examination system, however, the period can be slashed to less than a month, the fastest examination period in the world.

One month?!? I am reminded of the preciousness of the idea of “refrigerated transportation” as set forth in Stienbeck’s, “East of Eden.” It’s just not possible.
